KARACHI: Pride of performance singer Nazia Hassan may have left us nearly 14 years ago, but on her 49th birthday, fans of Pakistan’s first ever female pop icon remembered her evergreen hits. She began her career as a child artist in late 70’s when she seemed on PTV.Nazia started her professional career in 1980 at the age of 15, when she sang “Aap Jaisa Koi” for an Indian film titled Qurbani. She received Filmfare award for this song and surfaced the way for her debut album, Disco Deewane.
Nazia died of lung cancer on August 13, 2000 at the very young age of 35.
Government of Pakistan recognized her contribution towards promotion of pop music and awarded her the Pride of performance two years after her demise in 2002.
